Enrichment & Activities

at Allenbrook Nursing Home

Here at Allenbrook Nursing Home we understand how important it is to keep our residents engaged and stimulated with either physical, emotional, spiritual or mental interactions.

We have a dedicated Activities Department who are enthusiastically supported by the care team; this means a collective effort and contribution from all the staff is made to ensure that the residents enhance and enjoy their time with us and feel part of a lovely group environment. This in turn allows the resident to experience a feeling of belonging and part of our family here.

What we offer

activities and a social environment

One of the greatest benefits of living here at Allenbrook is the opportunity to enjoy the company of others. Whether it is enjoying a game of bingo, participating in our Wake and Shake exercise programs, relaxing and stretching to some lovely music or taking part in our quizzes, fun art projects or enjoying our entertainment programme. We love smiles here and encourage our residents to have fun and be happy with interests that they enjoy.

We do love a celebration here at Allenbrook and as you can imagine when a residents’ birthday occurs – the balloons and cake certainly make an appearance! We encourage our residents to make friends and we have a lovely lounge and conservatory where our residents can relax, enjoy their meal together or chat with the staff and residents alike.

Our residents’ may enjoy a spirited game of cards, visiting the hairdresser, enjoying a manicure, listening to music, reminiscing, reading, watching a favourite television programme, taking part in the organised activities or perhaps relaxing in their room having a one to one chat with one of our dedicated team – we offer person centred care to ensure that our residents needs are met.

Our activities programme can change to accommodate our residents to optimise their goals and aspirations and of course depending on the season, there is nothing nicer than to sit in our pretty garden surrounded by flowers enjoying a cool drink and relaxing in our comfy garden chairs chatting with a friend.

We acknowledge and respect all our residents regarding their cultural and religious beliefs and endeavour to celebrate special dates and observances throughout the year. Therefore equality, diversity and inclusion means that each of residents have their needs addressed and regarded.

Our Philosophy

“We believe each resident should have the opportunity to improve their quality of life no matter their age, physical or mental ability. We aim for our residents to be creative participants in our community and to have the chance to celebrate and develop their social, moral, spiritual and cultural strengths. We have a diverse range of ability within our home, but focus on a person-centred approach aiming to understand and create a personalised activity plan for each resident.”

We understand the benefits of our residents taking part in activities and engaging; here are a few examples as identified by Age UK:

  • Improves Mood
  • Increases resilience
  • Boosts memory
  • Improves moral
  • Improves sleep
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Increases working vocabulary
